The North Queensland Underwater Explorers Club (NQUEC) is a SCUBA diving club based in Townsville, Queensland. We have ‘bucket-list’ dive sites right in our own backyard, like the iconic SS Yongala wreck, and the central section of the World Heritage-Listed Great Barrier Reef.
We regularly organise both day trips and multi-day stays to these offshore locations, as well as visits to beautiful inshore locales like Magnetic Island in Cleveland Bay, and the Palm Island Group in Halifax Bay.
But it’s not all about diving either! We’re friendly and welcoming, with a social events calendar that includes BBQs and get-togethers. We also promote and care for the environment, and we often participate in marine clean-up and stewardship activities.
Interested? Divers, snorkelers, and social members are most welcome. We meet at the Townsville Yacht Club on 1 Plume St at 7:30pm on the first Thursday of the month (except January). Just look for our ‘New Members Welcome’ sign. We usually gather in one of the two glass-fronted conference rooms opposite the main bar, unless these have been booked, in which case we’ll be out on the main deck area.
