2021 Aust Day Atherton Tablelands Trip
2021 Aust Day Atherton Tablelands Trip
23/01/2021 - 26/01/2021
Lake Barrine Teahouse and Rainforest Cruises, Lake Barrine Access, Lake Barrine QLD 4884, Australia
NQUEC and Nautilus Dive Club (Cairns) are running a combined social and diving trip to the Atherton Tablelands, featuring dives at both Lake Eacham and Lake Barrine.
This will be a great way to complete some really interesting and unique altitude diving whilst enjoying respite from the heat and humidity of the NQ summer, plus you'll be able to meet and dive with other like minded club divers. Lakes Eacham and Barrine are local dive sites for Nautilus divers, just as Magnetic Island is for NQUEC divers, so this is a great opportunity for Townsville-based divers to get an insight into diving these lakes with the benefit of Nautilus local knowledge.
The main day of diving is scheduled for Sunday 24th January in Lake Barrine, where we will meet up with Nautilus divers using the grassed area right in front of the Tea House. This spot provides a great entry and exit point, and also puts you in prime position to sample some Devonshire tea and other baked goodies from the Tea House. Further diving is planned for Lake Eacham on the Monday and Tuesday.
Lakes Eacham and Barrine are separated by only 8 kms, and this region takes around 4 hours (350 km) to reach from Townsville travelling via the Bruce and Palmerston Highways. For the Townsville divers, accommodation will be your main trip cost, and will depend upon how many days beyond the weekend you would like to stay, noting the public holiday falls on the Tuesday. A complete range of accommodation options remain open for bookings in late January around these two lakes and which cater for all budgets; from houses for hire and B&Bs, to lakeside cabins, cottages, and even powered and un-powered camp sites. Here are some recommendations:

https://www.lakeeachamtouristpark.com/
https://chamberslodges.com.au/
NQUEC will have the club compressor on hand to provide fills, as well as the oxygen kit and first aid kit. Divers will need one cylinder, weights, their dive gear, and an altitude-adjustable computer. Please RSVP to simonpenprase20@gmail.com.

28/01/2021 7:00 am - 5:00 pm
John Brewer Reef, Queensland 4805, Australia
One lucky member at the club's 2020 EOY function walked away with the door prize of a day trip visit to the Museum of Underwater Art. So we've decided to help them enjoy their prize by making a club day of it!
Join our group with Adrenalin Dive as we dive and snorkel the MoUA and the surrounding John Brewer Reef on Thursday 28th Jan, straight after the Australia Day long weekend.
Price per diver using your own gear and Adrenalin's tanks and weights (double dive) starts at $299 (BYO lunch under Adrenalin's current COVID-safe industry plan) with a group discount applicable to groups of 6 or more divers.
Contact Simon via email using the club website contact tool for further details or to secure a spot within the group.
